COME TO THE WATER

Sung by Draper's Singers ㅡ Translated by Paul Chung

1. O let all who thirst,/
let them come to the water./ 그 물로 나아오라
And let all who have nothing,/
let them come to the Lord:/ 주님께로 나아오라
without money, without price./ 돈 없이 값없이 나아오라
Why should you pay the price,/
except for the Lord?/ 주님을 제외하고 돈을 쓰려느냐?

2. And let all who seek,/
let them come to the water./ 그 물로 나아오라
And let all who have nothing,/
let them come to the Lord:/ 주님께로 나아오라
without money, without strife./ 돈 없이 수고없이 나아오라
Why should you spend your life,/ 어찌하여 너희는
except for the Lord?/ 주님을 제외하고 살아가려느냐?

3. And let all who toil,/
let them come to the water./ 그 물로 나아오라
And let all who are weary,/
let them come to the Lord:/ 주님께로 나아오라
all who labor, without rest./ 쉼없이 수고하는 자들아
How can your soul find rest,/
except for the Lord?/ 네 혼이 쉼을 얻겠느냐?

4. And let all the poor,/
let them come to the water,/ 그 물로 나아오라
Bring the ones who are laden,/
bring them all to the Lord:/ 주님께로 데려오라
bring the children without might./ 힘없는 자녀들 데려오라
Easy the load and light:/
come to the Lord./ 그러니 주님께로 나아오라

Draper retires from Lake Junaluska Singers

By Clint Cooper

Glenn Draper is putting a check mark by another in a long list of musical accomplishments, but he is not about to leave completely the choral conducting that has been his life.

The Signal Mountain resident is retiring Dec. 31 after 55 years as director of music with the Lake Junaluska Assembly, a United Methodist conference and retreat center in western North Carolina.

"Junaluska has opened up doors like you wouldn't believe," said Mr. Draper, 81. "The outreach has been unbelievable."

The Virginia native previously was director of music at First Presbyterian Church for nearly 33 years before resigning in 2001 and director of choral activities and professor of music at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga for 34 years until retiring in 2002.

Mr. Draper said the worldwide contacts he made through the Lake Junaluska Singers have paved the way for the 55 overseas tours his various groups have made.

While all the tours were memorable, he said, two 1996 concerts for the World Methodist Conference in Rio de Janeiro stand out because they drew 6,000 people apiece.

The group also has sung at the White House for administrations from Nixon to George W. Bush.

Mr. Draper first came to the Lake Junaluska Assembly when he headed the award-winning Keesler Air Force Base Male Chorus in 1954 and 1955. During the second appearance, the executive director of the assembly asked him to be the conference center's director of music.

"I didn't know what I was going to get there," he said, "but I opened the doors and walked through."

Mr. Draper initially formed a mixed quartet, which would sing for summer worship services, conferences, civic organizations and social events. A wider vision inspired him in 1967 to create a group of 12 professional singers who would tour, make record albums, create television specials and promote Christianity through the Methodist Church throughout the world.

The Lake Junaluska Singers, which grew to 16 singers in 1986, did all the things he envisioned --and more -- and served as a proving ground for his other groups.

Instead of resting now, he's readying three tours with the Glenn Draper Singers, which he started in 1985.

"You don't sit there and wait," he said. "I always figured if you have energy, you'd better get started."

FAREWELL CONCERTS

The Lake Junaluska Singers will present three concerts Dec. 10-12, which will close out Glenn Draper's work with the group. The concerts, at Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center, include "Candlelight Sacred Carols" on Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Chapel; "Carols and Handel's Messiah" on Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Stuart Auditorium and "A Christmas Potpourri" on Dec. 12 at 2:30 p.m. in Stuart Auditorium.
